Hundreds of Ramapo Students and Alumni Weigh In for Lyonel
Over the last few days, we're sure that you've noticed our campaign to get Sodexo to reinstate Lyonel Dieujuste at Ramapo College of New Jersey.
In just a short amount of time, over 300 students and alumni of Ramapo have joined our campaign and signed their name in support of Lyonel.
Students and alumni of Ramapo College clearly understand that Lyonel needs his job to support his family in Haiti. That family relies on him, and now he relies on us. And it's been amazing to read all of the wonderful comments that people have left.
Here are just a few examples of the kinds of things people have been saying about Lyonel and how Sodexo has handled the situation:
"When I heard what the video was about, I started to cry...he was appreciated and liked so much by members of the campus." - Christina H., Alumna
"Lyonel was one of the coolest cooks at Ramapo...I always received a greeting from Lyonel, and he would ask how things are going with school. A really great guy, who needs to be back at Ramapo!" - Gerald W., Student
"Lyonel is one of the sweetest people I have ever known. The man should have the right to work." - David D., Student
"To my friend Lyonel, I want you to know that I support and stand behind every attempt to bring justice to your cause." - Joe V., Alumni and former co-worker
"I went to Ramapo College and I remember Lyonel. Every time you'd see him he'd be in a good mood, always talking and laughing with the students. I think it's very important that a worker feel able to talk to their employer about their working conditions without having to fear for their jobs and their family." - Kristen N., Alumna
These are the kinds of statements that both fuel us and make our hearts ache. It's hard not to listen to these voices. They're the voices of a community touched by a sweet man who's helped to take care of them.
With the gathering support for Lyonel, Ramapo College and Sodexo will have to listen to the many voices of their students, past and present, and do what is right. Now is the time to do the right thing.
